Guangzhou
Hey
Gang,
After
a 3-hr weather delay, we got into Guangzhou (China's 3rd largest city) last
night for the last major phase of the adoption process. We're here
because this is the only place that we can get a US Visa for Jing Lei. Today
she got a fairly cursory medical exam in three different parts. We had to
stand in three different lines in a hot and stuffy but spic and span medical
center. Just like Jenny in Nanchang, Kelly, our Guangzhou guide, is very
savvy, and very good at cutting through red tape.
My
cold is gone, but Mad and I have had a little intestinal drama. One of
the other families took a child to the international clinic for what turned out
to be full-blown dysentery. We're dropping like flies! I'm not sure
if I mentioned it, but just like Mexico, you can't drink the tap water here.
You also can't rinse your toothbrush or open your mouth in the shower.
We don't really know, but Mad may have been done in by a piece of fruit
washed in tap water. Ice may also have been the culprit. Just
serves to remind us of how many things we take for granted in the U.S.
Alright.
On a happier note, some pix...
This
was the view looking east out of our window away from the river into the
"old city" of Nanchang.
The
sky seems to be permanently hazy.
